Meet Jane and Jo
Room 89 is run by Jo Ireland, who has successfully run her own clothes business locally for many years, and Jane Northam, who sources interior accessories and gifts. The lifestyle and gift section is located at the front of the shop and a pretty boutique area is located at the back.
Jo has lived in Barnet for over 20 years.
Jo’s passion for buying and selling started with a pitch in Scrummagers Haunt, followed by a long cold stint in the old Barnet Market. This lead to Jo starting a pop-up gift and clothing business in peoples homes and for large charities such as The NSPCC, Lord Taverners and many others. Now Jo is delighted to be back in the heart of High Barnet as a partner with Jane in Room 89, allowing her loyal customers a regular place to find her.
Having been a full-time mum for a few years and with a love of homes and interiors Jane founded Chalk & Stone with friend Helen – a small business sourcing and upcycling vintage finds and furniture. They sold from home and also had a stall at Barnet market.
Love Barnet – a local community project – approached Jane and Helen to take part in a community project to set up a shop at 89 High Street Barnet (provided rent free by the Eleanor Palmer Trust) for local makers/small businesses with the intention of testing the market with their products and improving Barnet High Street’s offering.
After a successful few months on the High Street Jane and some of her fellow partners in the project decided to take the plunge and open up a shop of their own, Room 89, in Union Street making and sourcing local products as well as others that met the demand of their customers.
